SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Men's soccer) – Newly named Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College head men's soccer coach Abe Tizaf and Athletic Director Deanna Bradley are proud to announce the signing of the first men's soccer recruit in SMWC history in Elias Ramsey for the 2017-18 class.
"We are very excited to have Elias Ramsey as our first player to sign with the new SMWC men's soccer program. He is an exceptional player, both at the individual and group levels. His records speak clearly about his abilities; last year, Elia scored six goals with Terre Haute South High School as a defender," exclaimed Tizaf, "I am positive that Elias will be a great team player and leader for the team. It has been a joy building a relationship with his family during the recruiting process and we are counting down the days to get started."
The 6-3, center back player joins the Pomeroys from Terre Haute South Vigo High School in Terre Haute, Ind. Ramsey was a star pupil off the pitch as he was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with academic honors. On the field, Elias earned four varsity letters as a Brave, won sectionals in his freshman and junior season and scored six goals in his senior season. Ramsey was also a member of the Terre Haute Flyers traveling soccer team.
"I am extremely excited to have the chance to join the team. Getting to be a part of a new soccer program is a very great opportunity and I am ecstatic to see what the first season will bring," stated Ramsey, "I know this team is set up for success because the coach is one of the best people I know. He was my coach for the last two years of my high school soccer career and led our team to the best record the program has had. I feel this school is the perfect fit for me and I am ready to be pushed to the best of my abilities, on and off the field."
The addition of men's soccer is a new milestone for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods as it continues to add sports to Pomeroy Athletics. The new program will give male students an opportunity to show their "Pomeroy Pride" and play for The Woods.
"The growth of our male athletic programs is an exciting part of the continued progress we are making at SMWC," said Athletic Director Bradley, "The addition of men's soccer, which will begin competition in Fall 2018, continues to enhance the already terrific group of young men committed to reaching their education goals at SMWC. Coach Tizaf has chosen an outstanding young man in Elias, to sign as his first recruit to begin building the program from the ground up."
Elias intends to major in pre-professional studies (medical) and minor in biology while at The Woods. He is the son of William and Lisa Little and Scott and Carmen Ramsey. Elias has four siblings: Michael Ramsey, Sebastian Newton, Lexi Newton, and Tanner Little.
