SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College athletics has announced the 2018-19 fall sports schedules for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, women's volleyball, and the inaugural men's soccer season.
MEN'S | WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Pomeroys men's and women's cross country teams will begin their season on Saturday, September 1st, at the Sodexo Invite located in Franklin, Ind. Both programs will finish-up competition in the month of September with trips to the John McNichol's Invite on Saturday, Sept. 15th and the H.W. Wright Classic on Friday, Sept. 28th. A jaunt south to the University of Evansville Invitational on October 13 and a trip to the St. Louis College of Pharmacy on October 20th will conclude the October month. On November 1st, the Pomeroys will battle the wintry weather at the North Central Red & White Open to wrap-up the regular season.
The USCAA Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships will be held on November 8th – 9th in Virginia Beach, Va. With a pair of bids, the men's cross country team would earn its second berth to Nationals while the women's cross country team would qualify for its tenth-straight post-season appearance.
The SMWC women's volleyball team will begin their season a week earlier than years past traveling to Chicago, Ill. to compete in the Eagles Invite hosted by Robert Morris University on August 24th-25th.
After Labor Day weekend, the Pomeroys will head to New Albany, Ind. to take on Indiana University-Southeast (Aug. 30th) and NCAA Divison II opponent Oakland City University (Sept. 4th). At the Case Western Reserve Tournament on September 8th – 9th, SMWC will face Capital University, John Carroll University, and Case Western Reserve University. After a three-week away stretch, the Pomeroys will open up their home schedule during its annual SMWC Volleyball Tournament against Oakland City University (Sept. 14th), Midway University (Sep. 15th), and West Virginia Institute of Technology (Sept. 15th). Next, the team will hit the road versus Franklin College (Sept. 18th), Wilmington College (Sept. 22nd), and Boyce College (Sept. 22nd). SMWC will cap off September hosting Anderson University (Sept. 25th), Calumet College of St. Joseph (Sept. 28th), and NAIA powerhouse Marian University (Sept. 29th).
October presents a full slate of competition against NCAA Division III and NAIA opponents. The Pomeroys will host Hanover College (Oct. 4th), Fontbonne College (Oct. 6th), Blackburn College (Oct. 11th), and Indiana University-Northwest (Oct. 27th). SMWC will travel to Missouri Baptist University (Oct. 9th), play in a weekend doubleheader against Westminster College (Oct. 13th), and Greenville University (Oct. 13th), and then finish up the month battling Illinois Institute of Technology (Oct. 20th), Indiana University-East (Oct. 23rd), and Fontbonne College (Oct. 31st).
SMWC volleyball will conclude its regular season on Saturday, November 3rd as the Pomeroys host Hannibal-Lagrange College on Senior Day.
The USCAA Volleyball National Championships will be located in Virginia Beach, Va. November 8th – November 10th. If a bid is earned, the Pomeroys will enter USCAA Nationals for the fourth time in program history backed by three straight USCAA National Champion Runner-Up finishes.
The Pomeroys men's golf team will begin their season with a weekend trip to Janesville, Wisc. for the Iver's Edgewood College Fall Invitational on August 31st – September 1st. Next, SMWC will travel to Lemont, Ill. to battle in the Flyer Men's Collegiate hosted by Lewis University (Oct. 1st – Oct 2nd).
The SMWC men's golf team will take their talents to the USCAA Men's Golf National Championships in State College, Pa. (Oct. 7th – Oct 19th). Overall, SMWC finished third place last season as a team at Nationals while Colton Kuppler won the USCAA Individual Championship.
Spring season will begin on Saturday, March 17th at the Heritage Hill Collegiate Golf Tournament in Louisville, Ky. Followed by a trip to London, Ky., to compete in the Patriot Spring Invitational. At last, the Pomeroys will compete locally at the Rose-Hulman Invitational (March 30th – March 31st). The Pomeroys final away tote of the season will be in West Lafayette, Ind., at Taylor University (Apr. 17th). To wrap-up the season, SMWC will test their skill one last time at the Rose-Hulman Match Play (Apr. 25th – Apr. 26th).
The SMWC women's golf team will start their season traveling to Harrison, Ohio, for the Mount St. Joseph Invitational on September 1st – 2nd. Next, the Pomeroys will take a trip to the Hanover College Invitational (Sept. 8th – Sept. 9th) in Madison, Ind. After two weeks of road time, SMWC will return to Terre Haute, Ind., for Match Play (Sept. 13th). After which they will finish out the regular-season with a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich. and Kokomo, Ind. at the Grace Bible College Invitational (Sept. 19th) and the Indiana University-Kokomo Invitational (Sept. 28th – Sept. 29th).
The SMWC men's soccer team will begin their inaugural season on August 22nd under the direction of head coach Abe Tizaf. The Pomeroys will play an exhibition game against Franklin College (Aug. 22nd). Next, SMWC will host Brescia University (Aug. 26th) and finish the month on the road at Anderson University (Aug. 31st).
The Pomeroys will travel to battle Earlham College (Sept. 1st), return home on Labor Day against Southern State Community College (Sept. 3rd) and again versus Grace Bible College (Sept. 24th). A trip to Holy Cross College, (Sept. 8th), Webster University (Sept. 11th), Eureka College (Sept. 17th), MacMurray College (Sept. 21st), and Harris Stowe State University (Sept. 27th) will conclude the month.
In October, the Pomeroys will host Anderson University (Oct. 4th) and DePauw University (Oct. 7th) on homecoming weekend. SMWC will wrap-up its season with three away totes against Oakland City University (Oct. 23rd), Grace Bible College (Oct. 27th), and Cincinnati Christian University (Oct. 30th).
The USCAA Men's Soccer National Championships are located in Virginia Beach, Va., from November 8th – November 12th. If the SMWC men's soccer team secures a spot to play at Nationals, it will mark the fourth time in school history that a first-year program earned a USCAA post-season bid.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Craig Hendry, the SMWC women's soccer will begin their season at home against Brescia University (Aug. 26th).
In September, the Pomeroys host six home contests including a Labor Day weekend battled against Lake Forest University (Sept. 1st). Followed by competitions against Kaskaskia College (Sept. 13th), Earlham College (Sept. 15th), Oakland City University (Sept. 19th), crosstown rival Rose-Hulman (Sept. 26th), and Cincinnati Christian University (Sept. 29th). In between, SMWC will travel to Anderson University (Sept. 5th), Holy Cross College (Sept. 8th), and Eureka College (Sept. 11th). Followed by their final away game of the month versus Fontbonne College (Sept. 23rd).
Once more, the Pomeroys will finish their season with three away totes against Oakland City University (Oct. 9th), the University of Cincinnati-Clermont (Oct. 20th), and Grace Bible College (Oct. 27th).
The USCAA Women's Soccer National Championships are located in Virginia Beach, Va., from November 8th – November 12th. If the SMWC women's soccer is able to secure a post-season bid, it will be the first time returning to Nationals since 2010.
