SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team split its doubleheader with Indiana University Southeast on Tuesday to move to 19-5 on the year.
The Pomeroys won game one 9-5 after a big 1st inning to open the game. The Pomeroys started off with six runs in the bottom of the first and then tacked on two in the third and one in the fourth to claim their 10th consecutive victory.
Sophomore Hollie Jones went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while seniors Emma Riffe and Marlee Yeager went 2-for-4 and junior Kerri Schrock went 2-for-4 as well. Yeager and senior Camille Ulery each hit home runs with Ulery being responsible for three RBIs.
Picking up the win in seven innings of work was junior Stephanie Richardson.
The Pomeroys had their 10 game winning streak snapped in game two of the night, falling 9-4. The Pomeroys had an early 3-2 lead after the first inning, but a six run inning by IUSE in the second put the Pomeroys behind 8-3. From there, IUSE added one run in the fourth, and SMWC added one run in the fifth to fall 9-4.
The Pomeroys only mustered seven hits compared to 12 from game one with Yeager going 2-for-4 with a home run.
SMWC will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Brescia University.
