SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept Rochester on Friday to improve to 21-5 on the year. The Pomeroys defeated the Warriors in game one, 6-3, and in game two, 2-1.
The Pomeroys spread out their six runs with two in the second, two in third and two in the sixth, while RC couldn't muster anything past the fourth with one run in the third and two in the fourth.
Junior Marlee Yeager homered and finished the day 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while junior Kerri Schrock and sophomore Hollie Jones each went 2-for-3. Jones pushed her stolen base total to 26 on the year to tie her for the second best single season stealing bases in school history. She will need to get to 32 to hold the top spot held by Jamie Christopher who has 31.
Sophomore Taylor Andrew picked up another win, going seven innings and earning her eighth win of the season.
The second game of the day had SMWC on the ropes after the Pomeroys' offense stalled after the first inning. The Pomeroys put two runs up in the first and then finished the game with seven hits, while RC threatened late with one run in the sixth.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Sunday for senior day beginning at 1 p.m. vs. Brescia.
