SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team swept Brescia on Sunday, as the Pomeroys celebrated senior day. The Pomeroys now sit at 23-5 on the year.
The Pomeroys took the first game 8-2 and had the shutout going until the top of the sixth. Senior Emma Riffe started an excellent senior day performance with a 3-for-3 game one that included scoring two runs and driving in four more. Senior Marlee Yeager went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs, while sophomore Hollie Jones went 1-for-2 with one RBI and scored one run.
Getting the victory in game one was senior Stephanie Richardson, who went seven innings and struck out four batters.
The Pomeroys broke their scoring down over four innings with two runs in the first, three in the second, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to seal the senior day victory.
Riffe was back at it game two, as the Pomeroys eight-run ruled BU 8-0. Riffe went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, as she hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth that scored fellow senior Breanna Lange. Senior Camille Ulery went 2-for-3 in game two with two RBIs and crossed home plate once herself.
The Pomeroys found themselves up 4-0 after the first innings and then 6-0 after two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Looking to secure the senior day sweep, Riffe sent a shot out of the park in the bottom of the sixth for the walk-off home run and senior day sweep of Brescia.
Picking up the win with six strikeouts was sophomore Taylor Andrew.
The Pomeroys will be back in action tomorrow when they host MacMurray at 3:30 p.m.
