AKRON, Ohio (Softball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroy softball team continued their run in the 2017 USCAA National Softball Championship tournament on Tuesday afternoon against Pennsylvania State University Brandywine. SMWC proved to be the better team as they bested the Nittany Lions, 6-0.
The Pomeroys scattered their runs over the game as they scored at least two runs in first, second, third, and fifth inning. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods was led in hitting by Baylee Water as she went 3-of-4 at the plate for two RBI and one double. Hollie Jones showed her quickness by stealing a game-high three bases.
Stephanie Richardson was the ace pitcher for SMWC with a complete game for six strikeouts, three hits, and one walk.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods will face Cleary University in the semi-final round tomorrow at 2 p.m. PSU Brandywine drops to the elimination bracket to play Judson College tonight at 8 p.m.
