Fiery Bats and Strong Pitching Secures Two Victories

BRIGHTON, Mich.– The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods  College softball team won both games today against Kent State University - at Tuscarawas and Cleary University. The Pomeroys run-ruled Tuscarawas for the second-day in-a-row 8-0 and took down the #1 ranked Cougars 7-2.


GAME ONE | VS. KENT STATE UNIVERSITY – AT TUSCARAWAS | WON 8-0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Chambers threw a gem in game one on Sunday. She allowed zero runs to beat Kent State - Tuscarawas by a score of 8-0. SMWC  secured the victory thanks to six runs in the second inning when Malerie Higginbotham, Kindra Gingerich, Baylee Waters, and Kelsey Young, each had RBI's. Kerri Schrock homered in the first inning on a 1-1 count which scored two runs. Chambers notched the win for the Pomeroys. She allowed two hits and zero runs and struck out two. Sabrina Smith took the loss for Kent State - Tuscarawas. Higginbotham went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the team in hits.


GAME TWO | VS. CLEARY UNIVERSITY | WON 7-2

SMWC took home a 7-2 victory over Cleary University on Sunday. The Pomeroys got on the board early in the second inning when Kerri Schrock hit a solo homer. The Woods notched four runs in the sixth inning. The big bats in the inning were led by a home run by Hollie Jones and a double by Malerie Higginbotham. Taylor Andrew earned the victory. She allowed four hits and two runs over seven innings and struck out two. The Pomeroys tallied two home runs on the day. Jones went deep in the sixth inning. Schrock hit a dinger in the second inning. Overall, Higginbotham, Jones, and Niespodziany each collected two hits to lead the team.


NEXT CONTEST(S)

The SMWC softball teams next contest is on Tuesday, April 24th at home vs. MacMurray College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
