DUBOIS, Pa. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team battled Mississippi University for Women in Game 5 of the USCAA Small College World Series tonight at 6:00 p.m. The Pomeroys defeated the Owls 5-4 behind a strong fifth inning hitting performance led by junior Baylee Waters triple and three RBI's.

The SMWC softball team found themselves down 4-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Despite trailing, the Pomeroys were able to pull out a close victory against Mississippi University for Women. Taylor Andrew, Paige McClain, and Hollie Jones each reached on base hits to start the inning. Kindra Gingerich stepped to the plate and knocked a single through the right side to score Andrew from third base. Baylee Waters delivered the dagger as she smacked a stand-up triple to empty the bases and tie the game 4-4. Senior Kerri Schrock displayed her speed and beat the throw at first which scored Waters to give the Pomeroys the 5-4 lead. Overall, the Pomeroys scored five runs and tallied seven hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Behind good defensive play and a strong mound presence by Taylor Andrew, the Woods held off the Owls push to tie the game in the top of the seventh.
