SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Basketball) -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroy basketball team kicked off the SMWC Basketball Classic on Friday night as they faced off with Greenville University. SMWC gave amazing effort but couldn't keep up with the Panthers and fell, 92-71.
With the loss, the Pomeroys drop to 2-5, overall, while GU improves to 6-2.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College finished with four Pomeroys with double digit point totals. Molly Buzek had a breakout game as she rained baskets on the Panthers to the tune of 17 points and five rebounds. Fellow freshman, Maggie Reimer, has proved to be a consistent scorer as she finished the night with 15 points and five rebounds. Sydney Ingram made her mark on the game with 14 points and five rebounds. Rounding out the top scorers was Callan Taylor with 10 points and five rebounds. The leading rebounder for SMWC was Tara Parmer with six boards for the game. Parmer also recorded four assists. Precious Peak made her presence known in the paint for two blocks.
The Pomeroys ended the night going 27.4 percent from the field, 20.5 percent from three point range and 66.7 percent from the free throw line.
Morgan St. James led the way for Greenville with 15 points and nine rebounds. She was followed by Wesley Woodard with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Barrett accounted for 12 points and Maria Reinhard for 10. Brittany Lopez racked up three assists.
The Panthers were 47.9 from the field, 15.4 percent from the arc, and 75.9 percent from the stripe.
SMWC will continue play in the Classic on Saturday at noon as they go head to head with MacMurray College at Hamilton Arena.
