SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The SMWC women's basketball team encountered Robert Morris University-Springfield tonight at 8:00 p.m. EST. The Pomeroys defensive dominance led to a 79-57 victory which helps keep the team's USCAA National Tournament bid hopes alive!
Early on, the Pomeroys shot the ball 42.3% from the field which led to a 26-18 first quarter lead. The SMWC stout defense forced the Eagles to commit 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of play. In the second quarter, the Woods maintained their defensive dominance after RMU-Springfield only scored eight points. At the half, SMWC found themselves in lead 44-26. In the third quarter, the Pomeroys crashed the glass and grabbed 20 total rebounds. The SMWC defense forced the Eagles to shoot 15.5% from the field which served as the game lowest in a quarter. At the end of third, the Pomeroys were in command with a 65-37 lead. SMWC knocked down 100% of their free throws in the fourth quarter which helped seal the victory. Overall, SMWC outrebounded RMU-Springfield 70-to-56 and completed the game with 23 points off of turnovers.
