SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The Pomeroys women's basketball team lost to Midway University tonight 90-77. SMWC and the Eagles battled back and forth until Midway took over early in the third quarter. Despite the offensive effort, The Woods would not cut into the lead.
How It Happened:
SMWC and Midway both jumped out to impressive offensive starts. Each team shot over 32.0% from the field in the first quarter. The Pomeroys led by seven as they entered the second quarter. SMWC caught fire in the second quarter as they scored a total of 32 points. They shot 44.4% from the field and 91.7% from the free throw line. At halftime, The Woods was leading 52-42. In the third quarter, the Midway defense stepped up and only allowed SMWC to score eight points as they notched 30 points. In the fourth quarter, SMWC went on a run but it was not enough to get by the 18 point lead the Eagles had posted. SMWC lost 90-77.
Delaney Kendall led the team with 14 points; she added two assists, and one rebound
Sydney Ingram added 13 points; she added four rebounds, two steals, and a block
Regan Hubbard tallied nine points; she grabbed four rebounds, forced three steals, and tossed two assists
Mara Canada finished with nine points; she added four rebounds
Avalee Jeffers came up with nine steals which tied the second place school record; she tallied six rebounds, five assists, and three points
Maggie Reimer led the team in rebounds with nine

The Pomeroys will be back in action on Sunday, February 10th at 1:00 p.m. ET. SMWC will honor Callan Taylor with a 1,000 PT Club ceremony before tip-off.
