Steve Higham is in his twelfth season at the helm of the women's golf program at SMWC. Higham has been with the program since its inception in 2008.
In 2008, the women's program existed as a club sport at SMWC before becoming a varsity sport in 2009. In Higham's time with the program, the team has won or finished runner-up twelve times. Individuals have been medalist or finished in second place fifteen times. He has had the pleasure of coaching several USCAA Academic All Americans. The Pomeroys as a team and individually, have been ranked with the best in the USCAA. Coach Higham is especially proud of the academic success of his players.
Prior to his time at SMWC, Higham coached boy's and girl's golf for over twenty years at Terre Haute North High School. He led the boy's program to twenty-five invitational championships, thirteen sectional championships, five regional championships, and twelve state final appearances. In six years, THN won four MIC conference championships with Higham being honored as coach of the year the same number of times.
On the girl's side, the team went to eleven regionals and one state final. The ladies won three invitationals. He also coached girl's basketball compiling a 71-41 record. The team won two sectionals in the seven years. Higham has also coached in some capacity, an MLB player, an NBA player, and an NFL player. Eleven of his former golfers have become Club Pros.
Higham is well known throughout the state of Indiana. He was inducted into the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003 and has been honored with the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association Service Award. He also served as chairman of the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Poll from 1991-2003 and was Vice President of the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association.
