Pomeroys Fall to Grace Bible College on Senior Day

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Soccer) --  The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroy women's soccer team hosted Grace Bible College on Senior Day to close the season on Saturday afternoon. The Pomeroys fought hard but were defeated 4-1 by the Tigers.

Ashley Jezik scored SMWC's sole goal (32') off an assist from, Senior Day honoree, Castellanos. Corre Matherly was in the goal for the Pomeroys for a complete match with four saves.

The Tigers were led by Maddie Brown as she pulled off a hat trick (2', 16', 50') with no assists. Brandy Weaver contributed one goal (57') off an assist from Alex Pelley. The goalie for Grace Bible College was Regan Befus who played a complete match for five saves.

After the game, the seniors enjoyed a small gathering in their honor. SMWC had two seniors this year in Yadira Castellanos and Katia Orozco. Yadira was escorted by her parents, Abel & Teresa Castellanos. The senior criminology major with a minor in psychology from Griffith, Ind. started in 49 matches and recorded 18 goals and 10 assists as a Pomeroy. Katia was escorted by her parents, Jesus and Anabel Orozco. The senior psychology major from Cicero, Ill. started in 45 matches and was a key initiator for SMWC's great defensive play.

With this loss, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College ends the season with a 3-8-1 record. Grace Bible played their last game today as well and closes their 2017 campaign out with a 9-5-1 record.
