SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Volleyball) - - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team took on Franklin College in a midweek match on Wednesday. The Pomeroy fought hard but were defeated in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-21.
With loss, SMWC moves to 6-5 while Franklin improves to 9-4.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was led by United State Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week (Sept. 19) McKenzi Kumpf with 11 kills and 14 digs. Katelyn Cotter contributed 25 assists. At the net, Gabriella Slagle accounted for one solo block.
As a team, SMWC finished the night with 32 kills, 29 assists, and 52 digs.
The Grizzlies were led in kills by Brooke Harvey and Gab Arthur with 14 and 11, respectively. The assist leader was Nico Morris with 22 assists. Defensively, Libby Stahl led the way with 22 digs and Amanda Levilvelt with two solo blocks.
Collectively, Franklin ended the match with 45 kills, 43 assists, and 60 digs.
SMWC will take to the road on Saturday, Sept. 23 as they travel to face Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m. and, host, Culver-Stockton College at 6 p.m. in a tri-match at Culver-Stockton.
