Pomeroys Hold Fast, Tame Red Lions

 

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Volleyball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College  went head to head with Lincoln Christian University in a hard fought match on Friday night. The Pomeroys withstood the Red Lion's barrage and came up with a victory in five sets. The set scores were 26-24, (25-20), 25-23, (25-17), and 15-11.

With the win, SMWC improves 8-7 on the season. LCU drops to 8-12.

Gabriella Slagle led the Pomeroys in kills with 12. Slagle was followed by Monica Mack and McKenzi Kumpf with 11 each. Mack also recorded a solo block. Mary Alvanos kept the table set for SMWC with 30 assists. Katelyn Cotter contributed 13 assists. The defense was led by Pamela Dorman with 21 digs.

As a team, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College finished the night with 58 kills, 56 assists, and 63 digs.

The Red Lions were led by Melissa Swartz with 20 kills and Kristina Nichols with 16. The assists leaders were Maliah Blakemore with 32 assists and Hannah Pritchett with 23. Defensively, Hanna Trexler accounted for 28 digs and Katie Dial finished the night with two solo blocks.

Collectively, Lincoln Christian finished the game with 66 kills, 65 assists, and 71 digs.

The Pomeroys will travel on Saturday to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Marian University. Match time is set for noon.
