LINCOLN, Ill. (Women's volleyball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team traveled to Lincoln Christian University on Monday night for an early week match. The Pomeroys put forth a great effort but couldn't overcome the Red Lions. SMWC was defeated in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-21, and 27-25.
With the loss, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College moves to 8-10. LCU improves to 11-13.
Once again, Monica Mack led the way for the Pomeroys with six kills and 10 total blocks. Mack was followed by Meagan White with five kills and four total blocks. SMWC's offense was kept flowing by Mary Alvanos with 14 assists. Defensively, Pamela Dorman and Mckenzi Kumpf were the leaders with 16 digs each.
As a team, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College finished the night with 21 kills, 20 assists, and 60 digs.
Lincoln Christian was led by Melissa Swartz with nine kills and Kristina Nichols with eight kills. The assist leader was Maliah Feller-Blakemore with 19. Hannah Trexler was the defensive leader with 17 digs. Swartz, Nichols, and Hannah Pritchett each accounted for 14 digs. At the net, Katie Dial recorded six total blocks.
Collectively, LCU ended the match with 32 kills, 28 assists, and 66 digs.
The Pomeroys will return home to Hamilton Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as they go head-to-head with Missouri Baptist University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
