GREENVILLE, Ill. (Women's Volleyball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team traveled to Greenville University for a tri-match with the host and Knox College on Tuesday night. The Pomeroys went into the tri-match hot off a three game win streak in the Illinois Tech Tournament. SMWC quieted a rally to defeat Knox in four sets with scores of 25-14, (23-25), 25-17 and 25-19. In the closing match, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was defeated by Greenville in three sets with scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-15.
Against the Knox Prairie Fire, McKenzi Kumpf led the way for SMWC with 18 kills and 13 digs. She was followed by Gabriella Slagle with 14 kills. Katelyn Cotter kept the table set with 45 assists. Pamela Dorman and Madeline Howes tallied 12 digs each. Monica Mack was a wall at the net with six total blocks.
As a team, the Pomeroys ended the match with 59 kills, 51 assists. 60 digs, and six total team blocks.
Rose Griffin led Knox in kills with 18 while Emily Mosher was the assist leader with 36. The defense was led by Kylie Guthals with 10 digs.
Collectively, the Prairie Fire finished with 45 kills, 41 assists, and 38 digs.
In the match with Greenville, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College was led by Mack with 14 kills. The primary setter, Cotter, kept the offense going with 28 assists. The Pomeroy's defense was led by Howes with seven digs.
SMWC finished the night with 35 kills, 31 assists, 28 digs, and two total team blocks.
The Panthers were led by Abby Freeman and Allyson Mitchell in kills with 14 and 13, respectively. Alex Falcone was the assists leader with 31 while Allyson Grabowski recorded 14 digs.
Together, the team combined for 46 kills, 43 assists, 38 digs, and one total team block.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 27 as they travel to the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Ia. First serve is set for 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST).
