SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Volleyball) – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroy women's volleyball team took to the court for their final home match and Senior Night on Thursday against the Red Devils of Eureka College. SMWC honored its lone senior and first volleyball recruit, Madeline Howes before the action started. SMWC made quick work of Eureka as they swept the team in three sets with scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-22.
Monica Mack led the way for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with 13 kills and six blocks. Mack was followed by Gabriella Slagle with nine kills and McKenzi Kumpf with eight. The assist leader for the match was Katelyn Cotter with 33. Howes racked up five service aces and led the team in digs with nine.
As a team, the Pomeroys finished match with 36 kills, 24 assists, 28 digs, and 18 total blocks.
For the Red Devils, Anna Crank was the kill leader with 10 and led the defense with 10 digs. The assist leader for Eureka was Sara Worrell with 17. At the net, Caitlin Miller made her presence known with three blocks.
Collectively, EC ended the match with 23 kills, 21 assists, 29 digs and six team blocks.
After the game, Howes enjoyed a small gathering in her honor. Howes is a senior elementary education major from Terre Haute, Ind. During her career as a Pomeroy, Madeline earned the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Student Athlete of the Year Award, USCAA All-Academic award, and USCAA Honorable Mention All-American award.
SMWC closes regular season play with a 15-13 record and will head to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Volleyball Tournament from Nov. 9 – 11.
