SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (Women's Volleyball) -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball head coach Stephen Beeler is proud to announce the signing of Kelcie Basan to the 2018-19 signing class.
"Kelcie is an experienced DS that will make an immediate impact," stated Beeler. "She is athletic and aggressive on the court. I expect her to be a great addition to the team in 2018."
Basan is a Terre Haute native and a transfer student from Indiana State University. Kelcie is a graduate of Terre Haute South High School. As a Brave, she lettered in volleyball for three years, in addition to playing basketball. Basan also letter in softball during her freshman year at Turkey Run High School in Marshall, Ind. Some of her athletic accomplishments include being named to the Conference Indiana All-Conference team (2015), Outstanding Leader at the All-American Volleyball Camp (2015), Sycamore Award winner at the ISU Elite Camp (2015), and she was selected for the Don Shondell All Star Classic (2015). During her senior year at THS, Basan recorded 220 digs, 15 aces, 25 assists, and 10 kills. In the classroom, Kelcie excelled as a member of the National Honor Soctiety, a four year Honor Roll students, and earned academic and technical honors. In her spare time, she volunteers with the Indiana Special Olympics and is a head coach at Crossroads of American Volleyball Club.
"I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to play for such an amazing coach. Growing up in Terre Haute, I have heard many great things about Coach Beeler and I am excited to be able to gain more knowledge about the game from him," expressed Basan. "I am also thrilled to be able to play with a former teammate from high school and join this wonderful group of girls. With the school's beautiful campus and wonderful nursing program, I am grateful to be able to continue my education and volleyball career at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods."
Kelcie will continue her education as a nursing major at The Woods. She is the daughter of David and Missy Basan.
