SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College head women's cross country coach Zach Whitkanack is proud to announce the signing of Saige Woodford to the 2017-18 class.
"Saige is an accomplished student-athlete with experience competing at the highest level," stated Whitkanack. "Her experience and drive will make her a great addition to the program next season. I look forward to coaching Saige throughout her collegiate career."
Woodford, who will graduate from Plainfield High School, has spent her last two seasons serving as both the cross country and track teams' captain. The PHS standout has qualified for cross country semi-state three times and was in the top 25 in the state in the 300m hurdles as a junior. Her 5k PR is 20:10 and her 300m hurdle PR is 46:01. Throughout her career at PHS, Woodford has advanced numerous times to regionals in the 300m hurdles, 3200m relay, 1600m relay and 100m hurdles.
"I`m very excited to start fresh with a new team and a new coach, and I cannot wait to see how I will fit in with the team and see how much of a better runner I come to be," stated Woodford. "SMWC fits all my criteria - I love the size of the school and on both college visits, it was a peaceful college which I love, and everyone I saw was very welcoming. I am also very excited about being able to major in equine studies."
Woodford plans to major in equine studies and is the daughter of Sam and Sabrina Woodford.
