PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Women's Cross Country) -- Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's cross country head coach Zach Whitkanack is proud to announce the signing of Kayla Coryea to the 2018-19 signing class.
"I am very excited that Kayla has decided to run at SMWC," stated Whitkanack. "I believe that Kayla has a lot of potential growth as a runner and is very consistent. Her consistency is going to be very valuable to the program next year. I look forward to coaching her next fall."
Coryea is a native of Plainfield, Ind. and will graduate from Plainfield High School in the spring. As a Quaker, she ran track and field and, cross country. Her personal best record of 20:19 was set in 2017. Coryea was recognized as the Most Valuable Runner when she was a student at Monrovia High School in 2016. She is also successful in the classroom as a proud honor roll student.
"I never imagined myself running at the collegiate level, I just thought that it was that special little thing I did with a few friends of mine," expressed Coryea. "I'm quite excited for this amazing opportunity! I am unbelievably ecstatic about this new chapter in my life and I absolutely can't wait to head off to SMWC!"
Coryea will be an accounting major at The Woods. She is the daughter of Suzanne Dunster and has three siblings, Alaura, Sierra, and Isabell.
