SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – Shannon Hamilton, MS, ATC, LAT, DAT has been named the head athletic trainer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), athletic director Deanna Bradley announced today.
Shannon will immediately take over the responsibility of maintaining and improving the health and wellness for 13 SMWC athletic programs.
"We are very pleased to welcome Shannon to the department and looking forward to working with her. She brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and compassion to the position. She will do an excellent job in keeping the well-being of our student-athletes and coaches as her priority."
Hamilton is eager to begin working at SMWC, "I am very excited to take the job at SMWC. I have spent the past eight years working and in school while obtaining my athletic training degrees. This will be my first full-time position without being in school. I am excited to focus my energy and attention on this position while having the opportunity to work with the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators."
Prior to SMWC, Shannon obtained her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University in 2015. Subsequently, she accepted a Graduate Assistant position at Vereen Rehabilitation Center in Moultrie, Georgia. During this time, she completed a Master's degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education while working at a local high school.
Upon graduation from the University of Northern Georgia in 2017; Shannon returned to Indiana State University to obtain her Doctorate of Athletic Training. She worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Indiana State Football team for two seasons.
Hamilton appreciates her roots and those who have helped her during her time at Indiana State University. "I would like to thank my professors from the Doctorate of Athletic Training program at ISU. They pushed me to challenge myself and take advantage of new opportunities as well as encouraged me to find what really is going to make me happy."
Shannon enjoys being a certified athletic trainer because it allows her to promote positive change in the lives of people she works with. "I am most looking forward to building new relationships and having a positive impact on the lives of student-athletes both on and off the field/court/etc."
Outside of the athletic training industry, she is extremely passionate about her personal fitness and enjoys spending time in the gym and outdoors. Additionally, she enjoys healthy cooking, baking, and spending time with her boyfriend and her dog.
