SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. -- In the fourth edition of This Week In Pomeroy Sports | TWIPS, we would like to congratulate Omar Nabilsi, Zoe Trausch, Alexis Woodburn, and Katelyn Cotter for being named USCAA National Players of the Week. Each student-athlete excelled in his/her sport to be recognized at the national level! Let us look at the scores/highlights of the week and all upcoming contests for SMWC athletics. From the men's soccer team remaining undefeated (6-0) to the women's soccer team having its best start since 2013. We have it all below!

The men's soccer team is off to its best start in program history as they sit undefeated (6-0). SMWC outscored its opponents 14-0 this week. The Woods wins include Great Lake Christian College 9-0, MacMurray College 2-0, and Andrews University 3-0. The Pomeroys have 10 contests remaining in the 2019 campaign; with momentum in their favor, SMWC could potentially run the table for the first undefeated season in SMWC athletic history!
Offensively, SMWC is averaging 4.33 goals per match (26 total) and 20.3 shots on goal. Omar Nabilsi leads the team with seven goals. 13 players have netted a goal for the Pomerys thus far in the season! Nabilsi also leads the team in assists with three while Yazen Bakhrebah has tallied two. Securing the goalie net for SMWC has been Keaton Kriscak who has six wins and five shutouts. Kriscak holds a save percentage of .950 with 19 total saves.
SMWC men's soccer has five shutouts and has only given up one goal the entire season!
The women's soccer team played in three contests this week and finished with two victories. The Pomeroys beat MacMurray College 3-0 and Andrews University 5-0 while they dropped a contest to Defiance College 2-1. SMWC sits at 3-3 (.500) which is their best start since the 2013 season.
SMWC has 17 goals on the season and averages 2.83 goals per game. The women's team takes on average 19.7 shots per match. Their team leader is Alexis Pflum who has seven goals and two assists. Carra Matherly, Mannah Mace, Ashley Jezif, Shelby Joy, each has two goals apiece. Matherly leads the team in assists with four. Megan Benefiel leads the Woods at goalie. She has 37 saves and a .804 saving percentage. Defensively, SMWC has forced three shutouts (Eureka College 7-0, MacMurray College 3-0, Andrews University 5-0).
The women's volleyball team played in five contest this week. SMWC did not fare well as they finished 1-4 in their matches; Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, MacMurray College, and Concordia University-Chicago each swept them. The Pomeroys beat Knox College (3-1) and played tough in their loss against Monmouth College (2-3).
On the year, the Woods sits at 3-7 (.300) with 18 matches remaining in the 2019 campaign.
Offensively, SMWC averages 9.14 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .145. Along with 8.37 assists per set and 12.34 digs per set. Mandi Alspach, Alexis Woodburn and Riley Kinney each hold 69 kills while Jaelyn Fennell is right behind with 62. Katelyn Cotter holds 240 assists and average 8.37 assists per set. Pamela Dorman leads the Pomeroys with 151 digs with 4.72 per set.
Tuesday, September 17th
The women's volleyball team will return home against Franklin College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. ET in Hamilton Arena!
Wednesday, September 18th
The women's soccer team will host Anderson University at 4:30 p.m. ET. (FREE ADMISSION)!
Thursday, September 19th
The men's and women's golf team travels to Hulman Links to play in the Oakland City University Invitational. Tee-off times are TBA. Be sure to catch both teams while they play in Terre Haute, Indiana (FREE ADMISSION)!
The men's soccer team will be tested in a road contest against Webster University. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
Friday, September 20th
The men's and women's cross country programs will head to South Bend, Indiana, to run in the University of Notre Dame Invitational. SMWC will battle against other NCAA Division I institutions as well.
The women's volleyball team is at home against Fontbonne University. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET in Hamilton Arena.
Saturday, September 21st
The women's soccer will host Principia College at 1:00 p.m. ET. SMWC will look to win its second game in-a-row (FREE ADMISSION)!
