SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. -- In the 13th edition of This Week In Pomeroy Sports | TWIPS, we will take a look at the women's basketball team's first victory of the season against NAIA-opponent Brescia University and discover more about the future recruits of the SMWC Atletic Department.

Men's Track & Field
Head men's track & field coach announced the addition of Preston Mitchell to the 2020-21 recruiting class. Mitchell signed his National Letter-of-Intent to throw for the Woods on Wednesday, November 13th.
Mitchell is a 5-foot-11 thrower from Canton, Ohio. Currently, he is a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, National Honor Society member, Honor Roll student-athlete who holds a cumulative GPA of 4.32. He was a two-time varsity football captain and has finished with top honors at multip track & field events.
Whitkanack is very excited to add Mitchell, "I am thrilled to welcome Preston to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Track&Field program. Preston is an excellent student with great leadership potential. I look for him to contribute immensely to the program next year."
Preston was very humbled during his signing and thankful for the opportunity, "I'm definitely looking forward to joining the SMWC track and field team. Coach Whitkanack and Coach Rayman have been more than helpful in the recruiting process, and I thank them for taking a chance on me."
He added, "Now, all that's left to do is is finish my senior season with a bang. I would like to thank my parents for supporting me unconditionally, and my siblings for the sacrifices they've made. I would also like to thank Shannon Montgomery, my throws coach since 7th grade, for building me into the thrower I am today. I couldn't have made it this far without everyone's help. Thank you."
Women's basketball played in three away contests this week against Brescia University, Midway University, and Greenville University. They finished 1-3 on the week with another long stretch of road games approaching rapidly.
Versus Bresica University, SMWC saw its first victory of the season! The Pomeroys defeated the Bearcats 87-84 behind a good defensive play and an even better offensive performance!
Against Midway University, the Pomeroys lost to the Eagles 89-67. SMWC was led by Kalyn Williams and Delaney Kendall, Williams had 13 points while Kendall record 10 points. Avalee Jeffers grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pomeroys. SMWC shot 35.4% from the field to the Eagles 40.0%.
Facing off against Greenville University, the Woods fell 75-91 in a loss that moves SMWC to a 1-5 overall season record. The Pomeroys were hampered by fouls throughout the game, committing 31 to Greenville's 14. Natalie Nickless recorded 14 points for the team while also adding three rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
Head softball coach Jennifer Cassell announced the addition of Jenna Albertson to the 2020-21 recruiting class. Albertson signed her National Letter-of-Intent to play softball for the Woods on Tuesday, November 12th.
Alberson is a 5-foot-7 pitcher from Bloomington, Indiana. She is finishing up her senior year at Bloomington South High School as a 4.0 Honor Roll student-athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, she is a three-time varsity letter winner for softball.
Albertson is excited to begin the next chapter of her life, "I am excited to officially join the softball team and join the big family. The coaches were very helpful in the recruiting process and told me I could contact them whenever I needed. I'm excited to be a part of the SMWC family and meet all the girls. I would like to thank Coach Woods and Coach Cassell for helping me through this process and giving me the opportunity to play on the 2020 softball team."
Head coach Jennifer Cassell said, "Jenna has a great work ethic on and off the field. Her drive and ability to play multiple positions will bring a great dynamic to the team!"
Though the women's volleyball regular season is over, the team was back in-action hitting the weight room at 6:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, November 12th. The off-season program will run through the Spring working on strength, explosion, and quickness.
Wednesday, November 20
Women's basketball will battle Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena.
Saturday, November 23
Women's basketball heads to Circleville, Ohio, where they will play Ohio Christian University. 1:00 p.m. is tip-off at the Maxwell Center.
