SYRACUSE, New York. - Alexis Cobb and Kindra Gingerich represented the SMWC Hunt Seat Equestrian team at IHSA Nationals yesterday afternoon. Both ladies rode exceptionally well and left the show with honors!
Despite SMWC being the smallest team at the IHSA Nationals. Cobb and Gingerich both stacked up to their opponents very well. Each of them competed in the Walk Trot Canter event. Cobb was a ribbon finalist while Gingerich stole the show and was named Reserve National Champion!
Head Coach Tabatha Taylor stated, "I'm so proud and excited for them both. Kindra and Alexis both worked so very hard all year long, and it paid off!! Kindra drew a lovely horse and rode to the absolute best of her ability, and they both are 2 of 382 riders in the nation to have qualified for this incredible experience! There are more than 10,000 student riders, and 400 colleges in this association. I am beyond proud to be associated with these two exceptional athletes and SMWC."
Cobb said after her performance, "There are over 9,000 students in the IHSA and only 384 compete at Nationals and I was lucky enough to be one of them! It's such an enjoyable and unique opportunity, and I'm so thankful I was able to represent SMWC." She added, "In the end, ribbons collect dust, but it's the memories that last forever and I for sure made some amazing memories! I'll be seeing you next year IHSA Nationals."
Gingerich, the Reserve National Champion mentioned, "Riding at Nationals is such a feat in itself. We are the smallest school in the IHSA, so it feels so great to be able to represent SMWC at Nationals." She added, "I am so thankful I have been given the opportunity to show at this level, and it is so great to see our hard work paying off! Gotta stay focused, I still have one more ride!"
Kindra Gingerich will compete for the Western Equestrian team on Saturday, May 4th.
