Sara Schulz is entering her eighth year at the helm of the western team. During her time guiding the Pomeroys, SMWC has been the IHSA Regional Champion High Point team 7 times and Reserve High Point Team one year.
Since 2011, Schulz has had ten riders in the top 10 at the national level. Under the guidance of Coach Schulz, in 2013-14 the Pomeroys had the top three Open Riders in Zone 7 Region 1. Schulz has coached multiple riders to victory in Open Reining at semifinals. Schulz led the 2019 western program to a fourth-place finish at semifinals. In 2014-15, she led the Pomeroys to IHSA Nationals where SMWC finished fourth, which capped SMWC’s most successful season. She coached the 2014-15 Walk/Trot IHSA National Champion, Kendall Dudenhoeffer and the Novice IHSA Reserve National Champion, Hanna Hein.
Prior to being head coach, Schulz spent a four-year stint from 1996-2000 as an assistant coach for the equestrian program. She also coaches numerous youth and adults in the AQHA, 4-H and open show circuits.
Outside of coaching the western team, Schulz serves as the program coordinator of the Equine Studies Program. She is also a lecturer for equine studies, a clinician for horse clubs and actively shows and trains horses.
