SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - Men's soccer stand-out Omar Abdallah Nabilsi has been named Student-Athlete of the Month (September) presented by Refreshment Services Pepsi. His accomplishments in the classroom and soccer field speak volumes to the personal success he has had in his first months at the Woods.
The Student-Athlete of the Month award is given to student-athletes who have a 3.0 or higher GPA, display a high degree of competition, hold the utmost level of sportsmanship, and represent the Woods in a respectful fashion.
According to head coach Abe Tizaf, Nabilsi exceeds all those expectations, "Omar has been a great student-athlete and came ready to tackle both roles since day one. He is a very hardworking and dedicated player. He is also a goal-oriented person, and he devotes all his efforts to reach his goals and objectives.
Tizaf believes Nabilsi has a very bright future and can help build the program, "I have no doubt that he will continue down this path to achieve more success both academically and athletically. We will continue working together to maintain improvement in his individual performance and that of the team as a whole."
Omar feels humbled to receive this accolade, "It is a great honor to be recognized for this award because it lets me know that on the field I'm helping my team achieve our goals, and in the classroom, I'm doing my part of being a student first."
Nabilsi is a 5-foot-9 freshman from Marietta, Georgia. In week one of September, he was tabbed USCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week for his two-game performance of two goals, two assists, which helped lead the Pomeroys in two wins. SMWC men's soccer finished the month of September with a 7-2 record highly dependent on Omar's offensive attack. In the nine-game stretch, he scored 11 goals, dished two assists which tallied 24 total points.
Additionally, he had a hat-trick (three goals) in a 6-1 victory against Welch College (9.24) and was 2-3 (.667) on penalty kick opportunities.
Every time Omar takes a shot, it has a .305% of hitting the back of the net for a goal. Looking closer at his true playmaking abilities, Nabilsi scored three game-winners in the month of September (vs. MacMurray College, vs. Andrews University, and vs. Welch College).
