Pomeroys Hire Crawn as New Assistant Cross Country Coach
SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – Aaron Crawn has been named assistant men's and women's cross country coach at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC), head coach Zach Whitkanack announced today.
Crawn will immediately begin helping with the men's and women's cross country program. He brings a great wealth of experiencepassion, and knowledge to the runners at SMWC.
Head coach Zach Whitkanack said, "I am excited to welcome Coach Crawn to the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Cross Country program. His coaching and running experience will be a great asset to the program. I also look forward to Coach Crawn helping with the recruiting process."
Crawn joins the Pomeroys following the Men's 3rd place and Women's 2nd place USCAA Nationals finish and hopes to assist Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year Zach Whitkanak in the chase for a USCAA National Championship.
He joins the department after serving as the Boy's Head Soccer Coach at Northview High School for the past four years and leading them to a conference championship in 2018. Prior experience includes leading the Girl's squad at Northview from 2013-2015.
Before NorthviewCrawn worked with both the Men's track and Women's cross country teams at Merriville High School from 2008-2013. There, he helped guide them to 3 different individual Semi-state qualifiers in 2008, 2012, and 2013, and a regional qualifier finishes in 2012 and 2013.
Hailing from Brazil, IndianaCrawn graduated from Northview High School before completing his education at Indiana State University and earning a Master's degree in Coaching. Named MVP his senior year at Northview, he holds the school record in the 4x800m relay. At ISU, he posted personal bests in 1500 (4:04), 3000 (8:50), 3000m Steeplechase (9:40), and mile (4:24).
SMWC has already made an impact on him, saying, "I would like to thank head coach Zach Whitkanack and the athletic department at SMWC for this opportunity. It has always been a goal of mine to coach at the collegiate level and SMWC seems like the perfect fit! The staff I have met have been very caring and welcoming to not just me, but my family. This is a beautiful campus that you can tell is rich in tradition and Christian values which makes me feel right home. I look forward to working with and meeting more staff as well as the athletes!"
Currently, he resides in Terre Haute, Indiana, with his wife Molly, and their two children, Landon (8) and Lucy (6).
