Pomeroys Edged by Lincoln College 124-111

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (SMWC) women's basketball team were unable to make the comeback against the Lynx of Lincoln College this evening in a 124-111 loss. The team was led in scoring by Delaney Kendall with 18 points, followed by Regan Hubbard with 13. Brianna Smith pulled down 10 boards and Delaney Kendall posted a team-leading 7 assists.

How it Happened

  • First Quarter: The Woods struggled out of the gate as they were unable to get anything going from beyond the arc. Stifling defense from the Lynx forced the Woods to take deep shots and defensive miscues allowed Lincoln College to put easy points on the board. Easy layups by Lincoln College would put the Pomeroys into a deep hole to close out the quarter down 41-22.
  • Second Quarter: Lincoln College would continue to dominate in the paint, accumulating 40 points in the area midway through the first 15 minutes of the game. They would also benefit off strong fast breaks and making the most of Pomeroy turnovers. The margin would at least stay stagnant throughout most of the quarter as the Pomeroys would at least keep the game within 20. The Woods would find themselves drastically outrebounded (17-45), allowing too many points in the paint (50-12), and an inability to stifle the Lynx's fast break. SMWC goes into halftime down 41-65.
  • Third Quarter: The 3rd quarter would continue the same as the first half as Woods looked timid on their drives to the basket and made too many mental errors such as turning the ball over in transition and rushed passes. Lincoln College's lead would balloon to 30 midway through the quarter as the Woods would have to rely on deep shots to get back in the game. The Woods would hit a few big shots but they wouldn't be enough to put a dent in the deficit as they would go to the 4th down 29 at 68-94.
  • Fourth Quarter: SMWC would improve its play in the 4th, a trend not seen yet this season, as they started to find their 3-ball and were able to draw more fouls as Lincoln College appeared just a little sloppy. The Lynx lead shrunk to 18 halfway through the quarter, but the Woods couldn't bring the game any closer in the final minutes. SMWC would fall to Lincoln College 124-111 and find themselves 1-8 on the season.
