Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 in Season-Opener
Centralia, Ill. - Yesterday evening, the Pomeroys women's soccer team lost their season-opening match to Kaskaskia College. SMWC fell 2-1 and could not overcome the early deficit applied by the Blue Angels.

What you need to know:
  • Ashleigh Pflum scored the Pomeryos first goal of the year | 15:58
  • Ashley Jezik tallied the teams first assist
  • Corre Matherly finished the contest with 10 saves
  • The Pomeroys took four shots on goals and picked up 10 total fouls

Say What?

"It was a bruising encounter and we have some sore players today. Overall we competed well against a team that was fast, strong, physical and technical. We used a different approach regarding our set up and considering this was our first game, we performed well within that system. It will take a while to learn these unfamiliar roles but it was an encouraging start. Every player is required to defend and they did a decent job staying focused and disciplined in that regard. Lots of room for improvement though." said head coach Craig Hendry.

By the Numbers:

SMWC sits at 0-1 overall heading into the tomorrow's contest against Brescia University.

What's Next?

The Pomeroys will battle Brescia University in their season home opener tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. EST.
