Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team faced Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology today on its senior day yesterday afternoon. The Pomeroys lost 5-0, despite the loss, SMWC honored its seniors for all they have done for the women's soccer program. The seniors included Jasmine Peoples, Ashleigh Pflum, and Haley Schuler. These three student-athletes have given their heart and soul to The Woods and it served for a bittersweet day. SMWC will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 9th versus Oakland City University. First touch is set for 4:00 p.m. EST.

How It Happened:
  • The Pomeroys and Engineers were tied early on until RHIT scored two goals at the 26-minute mark
  • The Engineers tacked on one more goal in the first period and led 3-0 as both teams entered halftime
  • RHIT scored two more goals in the second period which increased their lead 5-0
  • Overall, the Pomeroys were outshot 39-to-2
  • Corre Matherly finished the contest with 14 saves; she needs 14 more saves to break the Single-Season save record

Looking Ahead

The SMWC women's soccer team only has three contests left including the match against Oakland City University on October 9th. The Woods will face Cincinnati Clermont on Saturday, October 20th at 7:00 p.m. EST and Grace Christian University on Saturday, October 27th at 12:00 p.m. EST.
