Pomeroys Fall 2-1 to Brescia in Season Opener

OWENSBORO Ky. -- The SMWC women's soccer team kicked-off the 2019 campaign on Saturday afternoon in Kentucky against the Bearcats of Brescia University. The Pomeroy's comeback fell short as they lost 2-1.

  • Alexis Pflum scored the lone goal for the Pomeroys, her 9th of the year
  • Pflum's goal was assisted by Carra Matherly
  • The Woods goal came in the 87th minute to cut Brescia's lead to one

How do you feel your team handled the pressure of the home opener?

Head Coach Craig Hendry said, "We battled hard and we defended well for long spells. Megan [Benefiel] made some fine saves and we had created a couple of good opportunities ourselves. A great shot from Alexis put us right back in the game, but we just came up short."

The Pomeroys look to bounce back from their season-opening loss when they travel to take on Rose-Hulman this Friday at 6:00 PM EST.
