ANDERSON, Ind. (Women's Volleyball)—The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball bounced back from a three game skid and swiped a victory over Anderson University on Tuesday night. The Pomeroys defeated the Ravens in three sets with scores of 25-18, 29-27, and 27-25.
With the win, SMWC breaks even on the season at 7-7. Anderson drops to 6-10.
Monica Mack led the attack for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as she accumulated 18 kills and two solo blocks. Mary Alvanos set the table for Mack and the Pomeroys with 26 assists. The defensive leader was McKenzi Kumpf as she finished with 16 digs. Gabriella Slagle showed her presence at the net with two solo blocks.
As a team, SMWC ended the match with 45 kills, 43 assists, and 48 digs.
The Ravens were led by Shannon Kirkey with 11 kills. The assist leader was Sydney Coffman with 38. Defensively, AU was anchored by Emily Benefiel with 19 digs.
Collectively, Anderson finished the night with 47 kills, 44 assists, and 57 digs.
The Pomeroys will return to Hamilton Arena on Friday, Sept. 29 as they face Lincoln Christian University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
