GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) women's volleyball team (3-5) battled Monmouth College and Knox College in Day One of the #Strong Tournament last night. They split matches on the night losing to Monmouth and bouncing back to beat Knox College.
The Highlights | vs. Monmouth College
- Riley Kinney, Jaelyn Fennell, and Mandi Alspach, each notched double digits in the kill category vs. Monmouth College (Kinney - 15, Fennell - 10. Alspach - 10)
- Katelyn Cotter tallied 40 assists vs. MC to lead the Pomeroys; she added 16 digs
- Pamela Dorman led SMWC in digs with 26 against MC
The Highlights | vs. Knox College
- Alexis Woodburn set a career-high with a whopping 20 kills to lead both teams
- Dorman added 26 digs and seven assists
- Cotter passed 41 assists and added 10 digs
- Alspach and Fennell each swung well on the night; Alspach finished with 10 kills, Fennell with nine
By the Numbers
- Cotter racked up 81 assists in just two matches
- SMWC improves to 3-5 on the season with the victory of Knox College
- The Woods had 107 kills in two matches
- From match one against Monmouth to match two against Knox, the Pomeorys nearly doubled their kill percentage

The women's volleyball team will be back on the court in less than 12 hours for two more matches. SMWC will battle Central College at 11:00 a.m. ET, and Concordia-Chicago at 2:00 p.m. ET for Day Two of the #Strong Tournament.
