SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's cross country team is ready to get back into action after running their final regular season race of 2016 back on October 22. The Pomeroys finished the 2016 regular season at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Fall Classic 5k and now have their sights set on Virginia Beach, Va., for the 2016 USCAA Cross Country Nationals.
The 2016 USCAA Cross Country National Championship will take place at 9:30 a.m. on November 11 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va. The national championship course will be a 6k wrapping around the Plex. The USCAA will be hosting cross country, as well as men's and women's soccer and volleyball national championships between Nov. 11-14 in Virginia Beach, Va., as part of their Fall Championships Week.
SMWC ran in six meets this season and split the six evenly with three 5ks and three 6ks. The last 6k of the season that SMWC ran was back on October 8 at the Cowbell Classic hosted by Principia College. Junior Cheyenn Wright has consistently been SMWC's top runner this season with a season best 6k time of 25:23.8. Freshman Corrissa Proctor owns SMWC's second fastest 6k time of the season with a 27:22.8, and not far behind is senior Sarah Wichman, who owns the Pomeroys' third fastest 6k time of the season at 27:36.1.
Head coach Zach Whitkanack is in his first season at the helm of the program and will be looking to make his mark, as the Pomeroys have two USCAA National Championships (2009, 2010) and one USCAA National Championship Runners-Up finish (2012) in the seven year's prior to coach Whitkanack's tenure.
