WILMORE, Ky. - Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's and women's cross-country concluded the regular season at the Asbury University Invitational this afternoon. Both programs ran impressively as the men's team took 2nd Place and the women's team took 1st Place. Between both programs, SMWC defeated NAIA-level institutions including Midway University, Georgetown University (Ky.), University of Rio Grande, and Alice Lloyd University.
With Nationals less than two weeks away, each team is peaking at the ideal time; Virginia Beach had better watch out because the Pomeroys have something to prove.
Senior Brennan Guido led the Pomeroys in its 2nd Place finish. Guido seized 3rd place with a time of 27:59.17. Closely next was Brady Page with a time of 28:33.81 and a 6th Place spot. Four men's cross runners finished in the Top 20 including Parker Nuest (11th Place), Carlos Davalos (19th Place), which helped earn a team point total of 64.
Freshman Zoe Trausch was the Asbury Invitational Individual Champion today behind a 17:40.36 time. Kayla Coryea, Breanna Barger, and Kendyll Schulz took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place! Not far behind was Emily Truax with a 6th place finish and Kathryn White in 8th place. As a team, the Pomeroys produced 10 runners in the Top 20 which helped earn a team point total of 16.
Head coach Zach Whitkanack said, "The women's team had an impressive race today. It was a great team effort and should set us well going into nationals in two weeks."
Whitkanack added, "The men's team also had a strong team performance. If we can move the back of the pack up just a little we will be ready for Nationals."
Senior Brennan Guido commented, "It's a fun experience being able to lead the team individually, today was a tough course but I think we all handled it well. I feel like the team feels tough going into Nationals and we're ready to run fast on a flat course."
Freshman Zoe Trausch stated, "I feel pretty confident in my teammates as we head into Nationals. This is one of the first races that we were able to close the gaps that we had in previous races. It was very rewarding to see that for our team during our last regular race of the season." Trausch added, "With the results our team had today, I cannot wait to see how we are able to run at Nationals."

Both programs will head to Virginia Beach, Virginia, for the 2019 USCAA Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 8th. Last season, the women's team was crowned USCAA National Champion Runners-Up, they look to finally have a shot at redemption. Men's cross country placed 3rd Place at Nationals last season, they would like nothing more to set the record straight as well.
